Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of the Appleby Highway and McShane Rd, Appleby.
Police were called about 12.50pm on Friday.
Initial indications are there have been serious injuries, a police spokesperson says.
The road is closed, with diversions in place.
Traffic is extremely heavy along Lower Queen St from Speedway heading to Richmond.
Motorists are being asked to please avoid the area if possible.
State Highway 60 can be expected to remain closed for several hours while police investigate the incident and the crash scene is cleared.
