Welcome back to Motueka Music Group’s first concert of 2026, featuring the trio Korimako. The ensemble is a strong reminder that chamber music is alive and thriving in New Zealand, with its founding members already well known to local audiences.
Motueka is welcoming violinist Helene Pohl and cellist Rolf Gjelsten, joined by pianist Michael Endres, for the group’s opening concert of the year. The trio brings together three internationally-respected musicians with decades of performance experience and a reputation for powerful communication and intelligent musicianship.
Helene and Rolf were half of New Zealand’s pre-eminent ensemble, the New Zealand String Quartet, from 1994 to 2024. Michael, a Bavarian musician now based in Canterbury, studied at Juilliard, has won numerous international awards, and has an extensive teaching career.
The calibre of these artists makes next month’s performance an exciting addition to the Motueka calendar. Their programme will showcase the depth and synergy of this newly-formed trio.
Motueka Music Group hopes the concert will encourage people to say yes to live performance in 2026, helping ensure high quality concerts continue to be offered in the region.
The concert will be held at Motueka Chanel Arts Centre on Wednesday, 11 March, at 7.30pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for schoolchildren, available from Motueka Floral Studio (cash only) or at the door on the night (cash or EFTPOS).
